Quick answers about adding expenses, splitting bills, settling up with UPI, groups, pay pages and fixing common problems.

Getting started

What is OweMe? OweMe keeps track of who paid and who owes whom, between friends, flatmates, trips and groups. Add an expense, choose who shares it, and OweMe keeps every balance up to date so nobody has to remember. How do I create an account? Tap Sign up, enter your name, email and phone number, then type the 6-digit code we email you. Choose a username (it is permanent) and you are in. A short guide then shows you around. How do I add a friend? Open the Add friend screen and search by username, or share your invite link or QR code. When your friend opens the link they are connected to you straight away, even if they have to sign up first.

Splitting

How do I add an expense? Tap the + button, enter the amount and a short description, choose who paid and who shares it, then save. Everyone involved sees it immediately and their balances update. Can I split unevenly? Yes. Choose Equal, Exact amounts, Percentages or Shares when you add the expense. Bill scanning can also split a restaurant bill item by item. How do groups and trips work? Create a group for a flat, trip or team. Every expense added to the group is split among its members, and OweMe works out the smallest number of payments needed to settle everyone. Can OweMe read a bill for me? Yes. Use Scan to photograph a bill. OweMe reads the items and prices, and you tap who had what. Check the total before saving, because blurry photos can be misread.

Settling up

How do I settle up with someone? Open the friend or group, tap Settle up, and choose how you paid. With UPI, OweMe opens your UPI app with their details filled in. You still enter your own PIN, and OweMe never touches the money. How do I remind someone politely? Use Nudge on their card. Pick a tone from polite to playful and OweMe sends a notification for you. There are limits so nobody gets spammed. Can a business or freelancer collect payments with OweMe? Yes. Open Me, then Pay pages and public card, and create a pay page. You get a link anyone can open without an account: they pay with their UPI app, then leave an "I have paid" note. You confirm it once you see the money arrive. Does OweMe move my money? No. OweMe is a record keeper. Payments happen in your own UPI or bank app. OweMe only helps you fill in the details and track what has been settled.

Account

Can I change my username? A username is permanent once chosen, so pick one carefully. You can change your display name, photo and UPI ID any time in Edit profile. What is the public card? It is an optional, shareable card with a fun money personality such as "Always pays first". It shows habits in words and small counts only: never amounts, names of friends or chats. It is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off any time. Can I download or delete my data? Yes. In Settings choose Download my data for a full export, or delete your account to remove it.

Problems

I did not get my verification code Check your spam folder first, then tap Resend. Codes expire after a few minutes, and resending too fast is blocked for a short time. If it still does not arrive, check the status page: emails may be delayed. The app is slow or will not open OweMe runs on a server that goes to sleep when it has been quiet, so the first open after a long gap can take up to a minute. Wait for it, then it is fast again. If it never loads, open the status page to see whether there is an outage. A balance looks wrong Open the friend or group and check the list of expenses and settlements, since a missing settlement is the usual cause. If the numbers still do not add up, use Me then Report a problem and we will look into it. I am not getting notifications Check that notifications are allowed for OweMe in your phone settings and in OweMe Settings. On iPhone, add OweMe to your Home Screen first. A muted chat will not notify you either.
